Patch Antenna Optimizer

April 2025 - Present

I helped develop a planar patch antenna optimizer using a custom-build three dimensional method of moments solver to calcuate the radiation pattern and gain of an arbitrarily sized patch antenna. The implementation is written in MATLAB.

I manufactured the antenna that was deemed desirable by the solver to check its parameters when realized. The solver was pretty good overall. The center frequency was off by ~20%, however given the poor manufacturing tollerance I held while building the antenna, I was impressed it was close. Below is a photo of the antenna and a VNA trace showing its resonance.

This project was undertaken for my calculus III final project at Olin College of Engineering. My project partner Aaditya Rao is an equal contributor to this project.
